Myrtle Beach has a specific set of beach flags to let vacationers aware of water conditions. These flags will fly from the lifeguard stands to alert of any potential dangers. A double red flag means the water is closed to the public; no swimming is allowed. A single red flag indicates hazardous conditions, such as strong waves or currents. A yellow flag means medium hazards are indicated, while a green flag shown near the lifeguard stand means that conditions are generally good for beach swimming and the lifeguards will closely supervise this area. If you happen to see a rare blue flag, it means that a dangerous marine life, such as a high number of jellyfish may be in the area.
If you are not sure of some of the beach condition signs or flags displayed, ask a lifeguard for safety advice. Lifeguards are highly trained and very knowledgeable about beach safety and conditions.
