Best Myrtle Beach Resort for Groups, Meetings and Events

Booking a group in Myrtle Beach is a logistics problem, not a holiday. Size the meeting room first, know which kind of group you are, and ask the awkward questions early — here is the full checklist.

Planning a group stay in Myrtle Beach is a different job from booking a holiday. You are solving for a room block, a space where everyone can sit down together, and a location people can find. Amenities matter less than logistics.

Here is how to shortlist a Myrtle Beach resort for a group, and where Sands Resorts fits.

Start with the room where everyone sits down

Almost every group trip has one moment that needs a room: the welcome session, the rehearsal dinner, the awards breakfast, the family meal on the last night. Size that room first, because it is the constraint that eliminates properties fastest.

The meeting space is shared across our resorts and sits at North Shore Oceanfront Hotel: 14,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, in six meeting rooms ranging from 1,000 square feet to 6,000 square feet, for groups of up to 400 attendees. Full detail is on the meetings and events page.

If your group is 40 people who need one dinner together, that is a very different room from 300 people in rounds with a stage. Give the number and the setup when you inquire — it saves a round of emails.

Know which kind of group you are

Group sales handles these as distinct categories, and saying yours up front gets you to the right person:

  • Corporate and business meetings
  • Weddings
  • Social events
  • Family reunions
  • Tournaments, sports and golf groups
  • Tour groups
  • Religious groups

They are not interchangeable. A sports team needs early breakfast and late check-in; a wedding needs a room for the party and somewhere for people to get ready; a corporate group needs the meeting room quiet and the wifi to hold up. Start the request at Sands Resorts group sales or call 843-692-5266.

Check what the group gets outside the meeting room

The session ends and then you have forty people with an afternoon. An oceanfront property with things on site solves that without a coach or a car park run.

Both of our resorts are oceanfront in northern Myrtle Beach, one avenue apart. Both have the beach, an oceanfront outdoor pool and an indoor pool, and both have the Sands Resorts Waterpark on site. North Shore guests get free admission; at Sand Dunes it is included whenever the stay is booked through Sands Resorts, directly or through a travel site. North Shore has Salt & Lime for a group dinner that does not need a bus.

Think about where the block sleeps

Bigger groups often split. If part of your party wants a hotel room and part of it is families who want a condo with bedrooms, having both within a block of each other is genuinely useful — Sand Dunes covers one-, two- and three-bedroom suites, villas and condos across eight buildings, and North Shore covers seven room types from oceanview rooms and studios to penthouses.

Ask about splitting a block across the two properties. For a reunion where half the family wants space and half wants simplicity, that is often the better answer than forcing everyone into one building.

Ask the awkward questions early

Get these on the table in the first conversation rather than the last:

  • What is the minimum size for a room block, and by when do rooms release?
  • What catering is available, and can you bring your own for some events?
  • Where does a coach park, and where do 60 cars go?
  • What does the group get with waterpark and pool access, and does it apply to every room in the block?
  • What happens to an outdoor event if the weather turns?

We do not publish blanket answers to these because they move with the season, the size of the block and the space you book. Group sales will give you the real numbers for your dates.

Start the conversation

Tell us the dates, the head count, whether you need a room to sit down in, and what kind of group you are. We will come back with what fits — and if the honest answer is that your group is too large or too small for what we have, we will say so.

Group sales: 843-692-5266. Or send the details through the group inquiry form.

The Best Myrtle Beach Resort for Families: How to Actually Choose

Ranked lists of family resorts do not know your family. Here is the six-point checklist we use with guests — bedrooms, rainy days, what is really included — and where our two Myrtle Beach resorts land on it.

Search “best family resort in Myrtle Beach” and you get a ranked list from someone who has never met your family. A resort that is perfect for two toddlers is the wrong call for three teenagers and a grandmother. So instead of a ranking, here is the checklist we use with guests — and where our own two resorts land on it.

1. Count the bedrooms before you count the amenities

This is the one families get wrong most often. Amenities are what you browse; bedrooms are what you live in. A family of six in a single room has a bad week no matter how good the waterpark is.

Ask how many separate sleeping spaces you need, then filter to properties that have them. At Sand Dunes Resort that means one-, two- and three-bedroom suites, villas and condos across eight buildings — the North Tower carries the larger three-bedroom condos, the South Tower has one- and two-bedroom executive suites. At North Shore Oceanfront Hotel it means seven room types, from oceanview rooms and studios up to one-bedroom units and penthouses.

Three bedrooms or more, the answer is Sand Dunes. Under that, both work.

2. Ask what happens when it rains

Myrtle Beach gets afternoon storms. A resort that is only good in sunshine is good for about four days out of seven in August.

Both of our properties have an indoor pool as well as the oceanfront outdoor pool, and North Shore’s indoor pool runs year round with a large whirlpool beside it. Both resorts have the Family FunZone onsite. Sand Dunes has published its own rainy-day playbook if you want the specifics.

3. Work out what the waterpark actually costs

Waterpark admission for a family adds up fast when it is a separate ticket. The Sands Resorts Waterpark is onsite at our resorts — 130,000 gallons, a lazy river, waterslides, waterfall pools, a splash zone with a swinging bucket, an aquatic treehouse and a kiddie-pool playground — and North Shore guests get free admission, while Sand Dunes guests get it whenever the stay is booked through Sands Resorts — directly or through a travel site. The one exception at Sand Dunes is a unit let by an outside rental company rather than by Sands.

That is worth checking on any resort you compare, not just ours. “Waterpark on site” and “waterpark included” are different sentences. Hours are seasonal and weather permitting, so confirm them for your dates.

4. Check how far you have to drive once you arrive

The hidden cost of a family beach week is the car. If the pool is here, the arcade is a ten-minute drive and dinner is another fifteen, you spend the holiday buckling children into car seats.

Ask any resort you are considering what is on the property itself. In our case both sit oceanfront in northern Myrtle Beach, one avenue apart at 74th and 75th Avenue North, with the beach, the pools and the waterpark all on site. North Shore adds Salt & Lime, an oceanfront Latin American restaurant with a full bar, so dinner does not require the car either.

5. Ask about the specific ages travelling

Toddlers want the kiddie pool and a short walk back to a nap. Ten-year-olds want the slides. Teenagers want somewhere to be away from you. Grandparents want a bedroom with a door and a chair on a balcony.

Say those ages out loud when you call. It changes the room recommendation more than any online list will.

6. Then check the price for your exact dates

Family resort pricing in Myrtle Beach swings hard by week. The right property in the second week of June may be the wrong one in the third. Have the shortlist ready and check dates last, not first.

Putting it together

For most families the sequence is: bedrooms → indoor backup plan → what is included → what is walkable → price. Get those in order and the “best” resort stops being a matter of opinion.

If you want a second opinion on your dates, call 1-800-960-9273 and we will check both of our properties in the same call — or read the longer which resort is right for you guide first.
