10 Myrtle Beach Bucket List Ideas

bucket list ideasA bucket list used to mean a compilation of the top things to do before you “kicked the bucket,” but nowadays families, couples, and even teenagers are compiling bucket list ideas. Creating a bucket list before a vacation is a fun (and easy) way to get the most of your week under the sun. Whether you’re a planner or not, we recommend piecing together a dozen or so cool bucket list ideas before flying to beautiful Myrtle Beach. The Top 10 Myrtle Beach Bucket List Ideas

To ensure that you’re upcoming Myrtle Beach escape is nothing short of flawless, we’ve compiled ten of our favorite bucket list ideas. Almost all of these bucket list examples are family-friendly, but a few of them are perfect for couples as well.

  1. Play 18 holes at one of the very best golf courses in the world, such as King’s North at Myrtle Beach National, TPC Myrtle Beach, or Tidewater Golf Club. All three of our Myrtle Beach resorts, including the North Shore Oceanfront Hotel, have spectacular stay-and-play golf packages.
  2. Go parasailing high above the ocean’s surface with our good friends at Atlantic Watersports, the most trusted name in the industry.
  3. Literally, shop until you drop at Tanger Outlets Hwy 17, Tanger Outlets Hwy 501, Broadway at the Beach, The Market Common, and Barefoot Landing. As you can probably imagine, Black Friday is quite a frenzy here in Myrtle Beach.
  4. Cheer on a guild of brave knights at the coolest dinner theater in the world: Medieval Times. The jousting, weaponry, horsemanship, and, yes, the four-course meal are all spectacular!
  5. bucket list ideasSpend an entire day at the beach – from dawn to dusk. Fill your unforgettable day along Myrtle Beach’s sandy shoreline with sandcastles, yoga, kite flying, photography, and perhaps a well-deserved nap.
  6. Ride the SkyWheel. It’s out of this world. Hopping aboard the skyscraping SkyWheel is perhaps the easiest of our bucket list ideas to achieve.
  7. Attend a Myrtle Beach Pelicans game on “Thirsty Thursday.” What’s better than home runs, $1 Budweiser drafts, and post-game fireworks?

Myrtle Beach Pelicans Baseball

myrtle beach pelicansDuring the summertime on the South Carolina coast, the hot ticket for baseball fans is the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, the Chicago Cubs’ Class A affiliate. Nothing brings families and groups together quick like a good, old-fashioned baseball game under the bright lights. And you won’t find a more fun and entertaining environment for a minor league baseball game than TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark. The Myrtle Beach Pelicans’ regular season ends in early September, so there’s still plenty of time to score tickets during your well-deserved getaway to Sands Resorts, one of the top-rated water park resorts in the state.

TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark

One of the main reasons that the Myrtle Beach Pelicans are popular among locals and vacationers alike is that TicketReturn.com Field is right across the street from Broadway at the Beach, a sprawling outdoor entertainment, shopping, and dining center. Baseball fans can spend their mornings on sandy Myrtle Beach and afternoons at Broadway at the Beach before slipping over to Pelicans Ballpark for hot dogs, $2 beer, and towering home runs! Two unique features at Pelicans Ballpark are the tall water tower behind the grandstand and the extra large trees in right field, creating a small-town feel despite being so close to all the action!

Promotions

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans’ weekly promotions are out of this world, ranging from $1 Budweisers on “Thirsty Thursday” to free Saturday fireworks. Despite offering adults a wide variety of beer and wine discounts, Pelicans ballpark maintains a family-friendly atmosphere that kids can enjoy just as much as mom and dad. Here’s a quick rundown of their weekly promotions:

  • Monday: 1/2 price admission with a donated item off this list
  • Tuesday: $2 tacos and tallboys from 6-8 p.m.
  • Wednesday: BOGO Hebrew National hot dogs on “Weiner Wednesday”
  • Thursday: $1 Budweiser and Bud Light drafts, $2 cans, and $2 glasses of wine from Duplin Winery on “Thirsty Thursday”
  • Friday: $2 craft beer drafts and $10 fish fry platters as well as 1/2 price admission for first responders
  • Saturday: $2 cans of “Naturdays” from 5-7 p.m. and postgame fireworks
  • Sunday: Free inflatables for kids 12 & under as well as balloon artists, face painting, and a pre-game on-field catch

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans

Minor league baseball teams change affiliations quite often, but the Myrtle Beach Pelicans have been the Chicago Cubs’ Class A affiliate since 2015. Our beloved Pelicans were also an affiliate of the Texas Rangers and Atlanta Braves dating back to 1999. Thirteen former Pelicans have gone onto become MLB all-stars, including Freddie Freeman, Elvis Andrus, Jason Heyward, Craig Kimbrel, Brian McCann, and Adam Wainright. As of early June, catcher Miguel Amaya, shortstop Aramis Ademan, and starting pitcher Alex Lange are the top-rated prospects currently playing with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.

July 4th Getaways to Myrtle Beach, SC

myrtle beach water parkThere’s still plenty of time to book a well-deserved July 4th getaway to sunny Myrtle Beach with Sands Resorts. For those who’re searching for a change of scenery for this year’s Independence Day celebration, you won’t find another locale that’s more family-friendly than Myrtle Beach. Not only does our beautiful oceanfront city feature jaw-dropping fireworks, unique parades, marvelous attractions, and authentic coastal cuisine, but we gladly provide all guests with complimentary passes to our Myrtle Beach water park and exclusive access to on-site beaches! Keep reading to learn why July 4th getaways to Myrtle Beach have become commonplace for families across the East Coast.

A Free Myrtle Beach Water Park

First and foremost, Sands Resortsfree Myrtle Beach water park is a rare perk that your kids will absolutely love. Spend your afternoons floating along the lazy river, anxiously waiting underneath a giant water bucket, and blasting down slippery waterfalls this Independence Day. When your family has had their fill of our exciting Myrtle Beach water park, if that’s even possible, head over to the Family FunZone inside the newly-renovated North Shore Oceanfront Hotel. The Family FunZone features classic arcade games, an indoor pool, a black-light mini golf course, and so much more!

Fireworks High Above Barefoot Landing

myrtle beach water parkBarefoot Landing remains one of the top attractions here in Myrtle Beach thanks to its unique combination of shopping, dining, and entertainment. This popular, family-friendly hub is also home to the best fireworks display in the city. Gaze toward the cloudless sky as fireworks crackle high above the Intercoastal Waterway. Broadway at the Beach, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, and the Second Avenue Pier will also have firework displays, just not on the Fourth.

Family-Friendly Parades

It wouldn’t be Independence Day without a parade filled with large American flags, unique floats, and free treats. The two premier parades in the Myrtle Beach area are the Murrells Inlet Boat Parade and Pawleys Island 4th of July Parade. Both of these annual events are huge draws for locals and vacationers alike. The main event is the boat display along the marsh walk in nearby Murrells Inlet where you’ll observe dozens of patriotic vessels filled with enthusiastic boaters. If you’re looking for a traditional yet still unique parade, head down to Pawleys Island for one of the only golf cart parades in the country. Over 100 golf carts, as well as trucks and hauled boats, will coast down Myrtle Avenue past thousands of eager bystanders.

Beach Fun and Tasty Eats

Unlike most July 4th getaways, your family will have unlimited access to several miles of pristine beaches. Go swimming, build a sandcastle, read a novel, fly a kite, and sunbathe under the golden sun this year instead of sweating near a scorching grill! All of Sands Resorts’ Myrtle Beach hotels are steps from the Atlantic Ocean’s white, sandy shores. Trade your apron, oven mitts, and spatula for an appetite this year. Enjoy beach cocktails at Ocean Annie’s Beach Bar, wood-fired pizza at Oceanside 74, or juicy burgers at Eli’s Oceanfront Cafe. To book a well-deserved July 4th getaway to sunny Myrtle Beach, please give us a call today at 1-800-726-3783.

Where to Find Live Music in Myrtle Beach

myrtle beach hotels with water parksWhile many may not consider Myrtle Beach a music hotbed, our live local and regional music scene is exponentially growing. With dozens of locales to discover new artists and rediscover old favorites, Sands Resorts should be your next coastal South Carolina getaway headquarters. Sand Dunes Resort is king among Myrtle Beach hotels with water parks, and Sands Ocean Club and Beach Club are a short walk away from Ocean Annie’s Beach Bar. Throw on a band tee, grab an ice-cold beer, and seek these local music halls for an entertaining evening of live music.

Rock and Roll at the House of Blues

Co-founded by actor Dan Aykroyd, the House of Blues is a Barefoot Landing staple. While it’s unlikely you’ll be hearing any blues at this venue, a memorable night of hard rock awaits. This unique, two-story concert venue sees a large number of rock bands, spanning generations, including Seether, Blues Traveler, Marilyn Manson, Puddle of Mudd, Steel Panther, and Gwar. Rappers Pusha T and Lil Xan will also be performing later this year. The tribute bands are just as popular. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch a Tom Petty, Dave Matthews, Led Zeppelin, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Michael Jackson, Johnny Cash, or Stevie Wonder tribute band. These artists are as close to the real thing as you can get. The House of Blues not only has nightly entertainment, but their jambalaya, baby back ribs, sliced brisket, and fried chicken is to-die-for.

Beach Music at Ocean Annie’s Beach Bar

For an entirely different concert experience, Sands Ocean Club guests can walk 10 feet to Myrtle Beach’s premier beach bar experience at Ocean Annie’s. Nearby Sands Beach Club is also a scenic three-minute beach walk from a specialty cocktail and hot summer jams. Our talented cover bands play Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars, Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson, Journey, Guns and Roses, Little Big Town, and many more. There’s nothing better than free live music steps away from a cozy accommodation.

Local Favorites Worth Checking Out

If you’re in the Murrells Inlet area south of town, stop by Dead Dog Saloon for daily live music and the best fish tacos on the coast. Two miles south of Sand Dunes Resort, chief among Myrtle Beach resorts with water parks, you’ll find Bourbon Street Bar & Grille. Bourbon Street is a local favorite because of their nightly entertainment and food and drinks specials. The supergroup Alabama performed six nights a week in 1973 at The Bowery. Alabama mostly covered Lynyrd Skynyrd and Merle Haggard during their stint at this oceanfront bar.

Myrtle Beach hotels with water parks are few and far between. Your family can gain free access to Sand Dunes Resort Waterpark by staying in any of our four Myrtle Beach resorts. Consult our packages and specials for up-to-the-minute discounts on week-long and mid-week stays!

Free Golf at Diamondback

One of the many perks at Sands Ocean Club or Sands Beach Club is the free golf. Sands Resort has partnered with Woodland Valley Country Club to bring guests a free round of golf at scenic Diamondback Golf Club. Diamondback, located in North Myrtle Beach, is challenging, quiet, and rustic–not the type of golf course you would expect in Coastal South Carolina. The course has large trees, pristine greens and bunkers, and short rough. Ocean Dunes Resort and Sand Dunes Resort also offer exclusive Myrtle Beach packages for golfers starting at $289 for three nights!

Unique Parades

Catch one of South Carolina’s unique parades in the Myrtle Beach area. Boring, old street parades won’t cut it ever again after witnessing the Murrells Inlet Boat Parade and the 51st annual Pawleys Island Golf Cart Parade. The colorful and patriotic boat parade runs through wild Murrells Inlet where spectators can watch from the marsh walk. The golf cart parade has cars, trucks, and boat floats, but the little golf carts are always the main event. These two July 4th parades don’t run at the same so that you can catch them both!

Fireworks at Barefoot Landing

Before finishing the Fourth with fireworks, grab some tasty grub and a signature cocktail at Ocean Annie’s, located at Sands Ocean Club right on the beach. Barefoot Landing, Myrtle Beach’s premier shopping, dining, and entertainment hub, is home to the best fireworks show in South Carolina. The fireworks at Barefoot Landing fly high above the Intracoastal Waterway in the heart of the restaurant and carnival district. Your week with Sands Resorts will go down in history much like Independence Day.
