The parade will stream along Ocean Boulevard from 27^th Avenue North to Ninth Avenue North with Rocky Bleier, a US Army vet and former Pittsburgh Steelers running back, serving as Grand Marshal. Military families are invited to enjoy a picnic after the parade with entertainment provided by the Andrew Thielen Big Band.

Vacationers will also want to visit Sands Resorts’ Hall of Heroes, an exhibit dedicated to war veterans, located at Sands Ocean Club. The centerpiece of the exhibit is a scaled replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, including all 58,253 names. Other displays include Founding Documents, a flag display and a Gold Dog Tag display honoring those soldiers who died during hostile action from the end of the Vietnam War until 9-11.

I get to stay on the oceanfront, have my pick of all-you-can-eat buffets, shop ’til I drop at malls and outlets, and dance myself silly at a variety of nightclubs. I can also add a bit of culture to my stay-at-home vacation with trips to Brookgreen Gardens, the Franklin G. Burroughs Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum, the Children’s Museum of South Carolina and the South Carolina Hall of Fame.  Oh, and there’s the Historic Myrtle Beach Colored School Museum and Educational Center  which is fairly new and celebrates the rich but, often overlooked, diversity of the Myrtle Beach.

Pampering myself at an area spa is always on my list of things to do while on staycation. But, my most favorite thing to do is to do nothing. I like just kicking back and enjoying the ocean spray and warm sun competing to soothe me while I take much-needed time to rejuvenate and relax.
